The Emergency Relief Fund set up at the Kappa Alpha Psi
Foundation has been activated in the wake of the horrific
disaster in Haiti. The Grand Board of Directors has received
a proposal from members of our Undergraduate Board of Directors
specifically to direct the efforts of the fraternity as
an organization of One Kappa! We must and will answer the
call to service.
Our efforts will be branded under the banner iKARE-Haiti
which is the acronym for International Kappa Action Relief
Effort-Haiti. You will receive more information on this
initiative in the next several days. Our goal at this time
is to inform you of the fraternity's plans.
A summary of iKARE directs every alumni member of the fraternity
to donate to the Kappa Foundation a dollar amount commensurate
with his station in life. Undergraduate and alumni members
will be asked to participate in "Dining with Kappa." The
concept is utilized currently by a large number of undergraduate
chapters where a percentage of funds would be donated by
restaurants to the relief effort as potential donors are
directed to a particular establishment frequently patronized
by members of the fraternity.
We recognize that many of you are donating to other relief
efforts via churches and directly through organizations
of your choice. The Fraternity seeks your help with this
coordinated effort. We are currently taking steps to make
sure that funds donated get to those who need help the most.
You may begin immediately by sending donations to: Kappa
Alpha Psi Foundation, Inc., 2322 N. Broad Street, Philadelphia
PA 19132. To properly account for your donation mark the
memo section of your check: iKARE-Haiti
With the help of the Political and Social Action Committee,
we are calling upon Derrick Christian, Undergraduate Board
Member and William Bates, Senior Grand Vice Polemarch to
lead the iKARE-Haiti Initiative.
