Complete the 2020 Census and Impact Your College Community. School lunches. Plans for highways. Support for firefighters and families in need. Census results affect your community every day. The results of the 2020 Census will help determine how hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding flow into communities every year for the next decade. That is why college students who would normally have been living at school on April 1, 2020 need to complete their own census using their college address.
Census Bureau rules state that most people should be counted at their usual residence on Census Day, April 1st. Your “usual residence” is defined as the place where you live and sleep most of the time. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, most colleges students are at their parents home and not at their “usual residence” which would be their dorm or other residence while attending college. Therefore college students must complete the census independently of their parents and list their residence as where they would have normally been living on April 1, 2020.
Parents of college students, who are staying in their home on April 1st because they had to leave college due to the coronavirus outbreak, should include the student in the number of people living or staying in the home on April 1, 2020 but must indicate that they usually live or stay somewhere else (Question #2 under Person 2 - 6).
We are also still hiring Census Takers for temporary jobs later this summer at hourly rates of $18 to $23.50 per hour depending on location. Job hours are flexible so students could return to school and still work as a Census Taker in their neighborhood.
